This legislation authorizes grant funding at the Department of Education, in consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services, to expand trauma-informed practices and mental health supports in educational settings.
Evidence provisions:
- Requires grant recipients use funds for "evidence-based initiatives, activities, or programs" including mental health support programs.
- Makes evidence mandatory.
- Terms, including “evidence-based,” adopts definitions under section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965.
- Reserves 3% of funds to conduct rigorous and independent evaluation of the initiatives, activities and programs.
